Question by Kill Goblins: do other people who study anthropology ever start wondering about our society’s view of sex?
i’ve learned about many different cultures. there are hunter gatherer cultures where everybody has sex with everybody. This is how it is believed human sexuality in society started, pre-agriculture. Agriculture made people form into more distinct family units (for complicated reasons), where you had a mate who was reserved for you sexually, but before this, sex was an uncontroversial tool people used, often in exchange for little things.
There is a story about a european exploring ship in the 1700′s that ran out of nails, because they found that the natives of a land they visited were so interested in iron, that the women would have sex with them for just a single nail. this behaviour was all treated as completely normal, and sex is casual in the foraging societies that still exist, and is usually used to form social bonds with the group, as well as to release tension.
Even things that we see as horribly taboo like sex with children is done openly, often right in public, while onlookers eat dinner and give the kids advice. If a woman came up to me, in one of these cultures, and asked for sex, if I was to say no, it would be seen as the same as saying “You can’t borrow some sugar,” and treated as horribly ungenerous and rude. Women in these cultures also have shown to be equally interested in sex as men, unlike in our culture, with lots of inhibitions put on women.
What does this say about our culture’s view of sex, if anything? Your thoughts?????

I think this tells us that women are underestimated sexually. Men assume that women don’t like sex as much as men. Infant, some women like sex better than some men and some men like sex better than some women.
The modern stereotypical view of woman’s libido is insulting. If a girl doesn’t want to have sex with someone, she’s “frigid”. If she does want to have sex , she’s a “slut”.
Ridiculous if you ask me. Men and women were created to like sex to the same degree, otherwise the human race would seize to exist.
